Zaynar Merchant
An app for the merchants, shop owners to better manage their businesses 24/7 online

Overview
Zaynar is an E-commerce platform that allows merchants/ shop owners to manage their stores and enable them for Online to Offline capability. Merchants can claim their business listings to become a seller. Zaynar allows full control for the merchants to manage their online store and engage with buyers through app.
The significance of 'Zaynar' in burmese meaning is 'Near the Market,' encapsulated in our app's slogan for the merchant: 'Smarter Selling.'
Goals
We aim to create our own E-commerce platform where all the merchants can manage their online store and sell their products 24/7 online whereas all the buyers can browse and purchase the products through the app with easy digital payment access.
My Role
Lead Product Designer |
User Research, Interaction, Visual design
Tools
Figma, Adobe Illustrator
All-in-one app for the merchant (shop owner) to manage their products and sales history
along with the easy digital payment system.
Product Vision
Our main vision for Zaynar is ‘Smarter Selling’. With that in mind:
- We want shop owners to become a merchant in Zaynar by claiming their business.
- We want merchants to manage and control their own business informations.
- We want merchants to add their products into our marketplace platform so that their customers can purchase through our apps.
- We want merchants to manage their inventory information update and keep track on their sales history.
Research
Research enables me to dig deep into my understanding of E-commerce (buy & sell) platform - between buyer, seller, payment integration and also third-party logistic service.
Research Goals
- Understand the connection between buyer & seller through E-commerce platform.
- Understand current market trends and analyze competitors to identify opportunities for innovation.
- Learn about the common and credential features for E-commerce platform.
Methodologies
- Secondary Research (Competitive Analysis)
- Primary Research (User Interview)
Competitive Analysis
It's important to research other e-commerce apps and get to know about their strengths and weakness. Competitive analysis helps us to gather information and make informed decisions, especially in the early stages of the design process.
I did some research on shop.com.mm, no.1 online shopping platform based in Myanmar.

Strengths
- The packaging provides exceptional protection for the contents within, ensuring their safety during transit.
- A wide range of product categories provided for the selection.
Weakness
- The seller onboarding process demands a slightly increased number of steps.
- limited range of payment options offered, potentially restricting user convenience and accessibility.
User Interview
Now it is time to dive deeper and build real connection with our users and gain direct insights on them by doing primary research. To ensure the interview process go smoothly, I created the planning documentation where I listed down the introduction and the survey questions.
Introduction
Hi, (participants' name), thank you very much for taking the time and helping me with the interview! My name is Amanda, I'm a product designer and currently doing research for E-commerce online platform. As we'd like to help local shop owners (merchants) for the better online selling platform, we'd like to understand what merchants needs and wants to sell their products or mange their online shops.
May I take you 10-15 minutes to ask some questions? (Expecting Yes)
Would you also like to give me the consent to record this conversation? I will only use it for my own reference (Expecting Yes)
Thanks! Please let me know at any time if you feel unclear with any questions I asked.
Questions
- Do you know about buy & sell (E-commerce) online platform?
- Have you ever use any of the E-commerce platform before? (eg. shop.com.mm, one kyat, etc.,)
If the answer is YES, are you still using now?
If the answer is NO, what challenges do you have to not use any? - If you ever stop using E-commerce platform, may I know what was your problems & difficulties?
- Please try to think that you're selling your products 24/7 online, what your expectations & requirements will be?
Conclusion: Thank you so much for participating! Really appreciate your time.
Research Analysis
To synthesize the qualitative data gathered from user interview, I came up with the following analysis which covers insights and what users need.
Needs
Insights
- Merchant users need build-in delivery function so that they don't have to worry about how to deliver their products to their customers.
- Merchant users need a wide range of product categories provided in our system so that they can easily choose or select category based on their product type.
- Merchant users need a diverse range of payment options to enable their customers to make payments using various methods.
- Users expect to have delivery feature included in our platform.
- Users prefer selecting or choosing product categories which provided in our system.
- Users expect to have more payment options in our platform.
Defining the MVPs
Based on our product vision and research analysis, we came up with the main core features of Zaynar as following:
- Merchant Registration
- Shop Management
- Product Management
- Customer Relation Management
After going through the discussion with my product owner to help shaped our product roadmap, we came up with the following key user stories that we want to accomplish in our first MVP.
- As a user, I can able to register as a merchant user by claiming my business.
- As a merchant user, I can able to add products to the marketplace, categorizing them under various product categories and types.
- As a merchant user, I can able to update or edit my shop information, including details such as phone number or location address.
- As a merchant user, I can able to update the availability status of my inventory.
User Flow
This process helps me to navigate through the user journey to accomplish the specific task. Below is the user flow which describe one of the scenarios that user will be encountered. By doing that, we can walk in an individual user’s shoes and think through ‘what is and what is not’ journey along the way.

Sketches
At the beginning of the ideation and design process, we brainstormed and drew some sketches together with my product owner in order to picture the overall process of Zaynar based on the main features we discussed earlier.

Mid-Fidelity Wireframes
I explored my concepts visually by sketching out mid-fi wireframes based on the user flow diagrams and sketches. It helps me to have a better discussion with my product owner & development team in terms of the product requirements and also the technical feasibility.

Hi-Fidelity Wireframes
After I've done with the mid-fi wireframes, now it's time to add more details and precisions by turning them into high-fidelity wireframes. It helps me to conduct usability testing to be more precise and visually appealing.

Usability Test Planning
The development team has initiated the simultaneous implementation of the app alongside the ongoing design phase, conducting tests on the necessary API for the E-commerce platform.
We conducted usability testing using the live application with dummy data instead of relying on a design prototype. This approach allowed us to gather valuable insights and feedback from users interacting with the actual product, providing a more authentic and representative assessment of its usability.
Objectives
- Test if users are able to accomplish the given tasks
- Understand how long it takes for users to complete each task
- Identify the features that generate difficulties and confusion when users are navigating through the app and completing a task
Subject
Zaynar mobile app (dev version)
Methodology
Evaluative Research Methodology:
1) Think-Aloud Method: I will encourage each participant to adopt the think-aloud method, where they will talk about their process as they complete the task.
2) Usability Testing:
Moderated, in-person testing: I will show the dev version of the app and invite the participant to complete tasks. In the meantime, I will be sitting aside, observing and taking notes of the process.
Participants
5-10 Participants who:
1) age between the target group of 25-60
2) are merchants (shop owners)
Inviting Plan
Participants will be invited from personal network
Script Procedure
Hi, (participants' name), thank you very much for taking the time and helping me with the test! My name is Amanda, and I will be moderating the usability study today. What I will invite you to do is to navigate through Zaynar, an app for the merchants (shop owners), and complete 3 tasks.
Please note that the app is still in our development stage with limited functionality and you will only see the sample data for now.
In the process of completing the tasks, I would like you to speak out to me about what you are thinking and how you are feeling. There are no right or wrong answers, so please feel free to share anything in your mind. The task should take about 5-8 minutes to complete. Would that be okay with you? (expecting yes) Great! Now shall we start the testing?
Scenarios
- Scenario 1: You wanted to become a seller and start claiming your business (claiming process)
Task 1: Register as a Zaynar user and claim your own business - Scenario 2: You wanted to sell your products in our Marketplace so you started adding your products (add product flow)
Task 2: Add your own products under your business - Scenario 3: You wanted to update your shop phone number or location (Manage shop information process)
Task 3: Edit (or) update your shop information
Test Completion Rate
I expect a 100% completion rate since all tasks are necessary features of a merchant app and were designed based on a lot of research through discussions.
Error Free Rate
I expect a 92% error-free rate because the app is still in the development stage and we only provided the dummy data for now.
Insights
Creating insights from usability study is crucial because it helps us to make decision-making, facilitates iterative design, helps us to summarize user feedbacks and areas of improvement based on priority levels. Last but not least, it also ensures that the final product aligns closely with what user needs and wants.
