Research Goals

  • Understand the connection between buyer & seller through E-commerce platform.
  • Understand what kind of E-commerce apps & website
  • Learn about the common and credential features of E-commerce platform.

Methodologies

  • Secondary Research (Competitive Analysis)

Competitive Analysis

It's important to research other e-commerce apps and get to know about their strengths and weakness. Competitive analysis research helps us to gather information and make informed decisions in the development, design of our apps.

I did some research on shop.com.mm, no.1 online shopping platform based in Myanmar.

Strengths

  • Nice packaging & fast delivery provided
  • A wide range of product category provided

Weakness

  • More steps required just to become a seller
  • Limited payment options

User Interview

Now it is time to dive deeper and build real connection with our users and gain direct insights on them by primary research. To ensure the interview process go smoothly, I created the planning documentation where I listed down the introduction and the survey questions.

Introduction

Hi, (participants' name), thank you very much for taking the time and helping me with the interview! My name is Amanda, I'm a product designer and currently doing research for E-commerce online platform. As we'd like to help local shop owners (merchants) for the better online selling platform, we'd like to understand what merchants needs and wants to sell their products or mange their online shops.

May I take you 10-15 minutes to ask some questions? (Expecting Yes)
Would you also like to give me the consent to record this conversation? I will only use it for my own reference (Expecting Yes)
Thanks! Please let me know at any time if you feel unclear with any questions I asked.

Questions

  • Do you know about buy & sell (E-commerce) online platform?
  • Have you ever use any of the E-commerce platform before? (eg. shop.com.mm, one kyat, etc.,)
If the answer is YES, are you still using now?
If the answer is NO, what challenges do you have to not use any?
  • If you ever stop using E-commerce platform, may I know what was your problems & difficulties?
  • Please try to think that you're selling your products 24/7 online, what your expectations & requirements will be?

Conclusion: Thank you so much for participating! Really appreciate your time.

Research Analysis

To synthesize the qualitative data gathered from user interview, I came up with the following analysis which covers insights and what users need.

Patterns

Insights

Recommendations

  • 5/5 users thought taking a selfie together with shop to verify the ownership is not comfortable at all.
  • 4/5 users thought typing their address manually is a waste of time and not comfortable at all.
  • 3/5 users thought SMS verification is more comfortable than email verification.
  • Users hesitate to upload their selfie with shop and prefer to upload documents like business license.
  • Users prefer selecting or choosing their address via Maps rather than typing it manually.
  • Users expect to receive verification code from SMS rather than sending to Email.
  • Change the description text to be more clear and add another option to choose & upload from phone gallery.
  • Add another option to select address from google Maps.
  • Provide both methods to user as some users prefer one method over other.

Mid-Fidelity Wireframes

I explored my concepts visually by sketching out mid-fi wireframes based on the user flow diagrams. It helps me to have a better discussion with my product owner & development team in terms of the product requirements and also the technical feasibility.

Onboarding Illustrations

Onboarding illustrations represent the core features and provide a glimpse into the overall feel of the app.

Design System

Creating design system is an important process and it plays a crucial role in the development and maintenance of successful digital products when it comes to CONSISTENCY, EFFICIENCY and ACCESSIBILITY.

Icons & Illustrations

Then I provided the visual assets of the app to the development team for seamless integration for the user interface and visual appeal.

Hi-Fidelity Wireframes

Here’s some of the high-fidelity wireframes which is visually appealing yet user-friendly experiences.
